I read your comment on my 101 blog..Well done on earmuff purchase (I aint even got mine yet!!). I live in Kirkcaldy (not my hometown though..I just live here!)but my side of town is part of Glenrothes constituency. Im thinking of getting more involved in politics..who do you campaign for? I was pleased with election result!
At the moment Im taking part in NaBloPoMo..posting on My Knits & Nags blog everyday. Its hard trying not to slag anyone off too badly as everyone I know is reading it this month. Ho hum.

Fuckin’-A, woman. I miss a post or two, and now you’ve gone all tres cool boat owner and international spokespersonally famous on me!

I am now an old woman, but Paris was always a dream trip, in my younger days. When I got divorced I thought about actually doing it, but then more life happened and went to San Francisco instead.

And the bike…I love riding bike. The sense of freedom and the feel of the wind on the face. Thanks for the vicarious sensory experience.

And I need me some shower at least every other day.

I spent WWKIP in Kirkcaldy (grim..current home town) in a park in the spitting rain under an Argos gazebo with 20 knitting grandmas (who are thankfully all very lovely and doled out cakes and sausage rolls..haha).

I’m not goth but I am a new yorker and we all pretty much wear black. My mom calls us shadow people, she’s weird. Anyway because of my knitting I’m now attracted to all kinds of colors I never would have thought of before I started knitting. Its a little insane. My cred died a wimpering death sometime ago. Once I thought I was cool (whether I actually was or not is another matter)..now alas I know I am ‘conformist’. I wore Doc marten boots, German army jacket, shaved my head and pierced my face. Now I have a very sensible bobbed haircut in my horror of horrors..natural hair colour, have only one hole in each earlobe and have shhh..been known to shop for clothes in Asda..shriek!!

Maybe I need to go drink some K cider and listen to The Smiths for a few hours…instead of sitting down to watch ‘I’ll Do Anything’ on a Saturday night with a nice cup of tea and my knitting!!

Super socks by the way..for ultimate effect wear with sandals!!

You’re absolutely right… the more I thought about this the more I realised how unfair I’m being to judge all womankind by its lowest standards. It’s like ignoring all the great things that a lot of men contribute to society just because you also see a lot of them out getting drunk and getting into fights.

That being said, I still give Ravelry credit for introducing me to MANY incredible, intelligent, funny women who restored my faith after many bad personal experiences! I don’t know if that makes me a hypocrite…?

Hey! Hang on! What makes the lousy behaviour of some Ravellers a representation of lousy *feminine* behaviour? I do agree that there’s a level of bitchiness/troublemaking that wasn’t there before - and that’s so sad, because yes, pretty recently it was still amazingly supportive and naturally anti-bitch - but I don’t think it’s a woman thing. It’s an internet thing. The difference in tone between Ravelry and other (non-knitting) forums may be lessening, but even if it weren’t there at all, that still doesn’t reflect badly on *women*. It just means we’re not necessarily *nicer* than men. I can live with that.

There’s still a lot of great people on Ravelry, don’t get me wrong, I think now it’s grown it’s just safer to stick to groups where you’ve got a common interest because some of the more intolerant people are pretty vocal. I used to see rude people get overwhelmed by friendly responses, now it’s often vice versa.

As many forums grew on Ravelry, I lost interest. It just took for fucking ever to slog through the drivel to find the occasional inspiring, informative, or perfectly snarky sharp-witted comment that I could relate to. And I am completely uninterested in the drama. As in “real life” there are people who suck and people I’d like to hang out with. I’m pretty sure I behave on line the way I would in person.
I prefer to read blogs (and utilize Ravelry for all its other fabulous resources). The more I read yours, the more I notice we have in common (i.e. views on feminism).

hi there. came to your blog via the jezebel group on ravelry. and i have to say that the more i read on ravelry, the more i’m thinking that i should just stick to the pattern/yarn search and not actually read the forums! i just got to the part in the peapod thread where sandi from IK is talking about how reading the posts made her cry. :ugh: try to be professional lady! i mean, we all have feelings and we can cry or yell or whatever, but i think that at some point, people need to grow up and not engage with whoever in their life is negative whether it’s real life friends or just randoms on ravelry.
ok, anyways, just wanted to say that not everyone on ravelry is crazy - i’m nice and fairly mild-mannered but yeah, you definitely have a point about people wanting to form cliques and cry to teacher!

Hey there — I’ve caught you in a few forums on Rav, and follwed you here from there. I completely appreciate your comments there, and totally understand where you are coming form in your blog post! (I ended up trying to bring levity into the “Peapod” thead — to little avail.) Sadly, there are some who will JUST NOT SEE REASON and are determined to be pissed until they get their pound of flesh. To them, I say Karma is a bitch. Take a break if you need to — I did — but I still have to believe the majority of members are not quite so unruly and militant. Enough people will get sick of this behavior and it won’t have a place anymore. I did notice, that when someone began name calling in the other thread, LOTS of people jumped in and cried foul. I’m hoping that is the beginning of a trend.

I got here from your post on ravelry. What you may or may not know is that one of the people who flamed you has a massive personal grudge against the person you tried to defend. I saw those needles in Poundland! There were packs in smaller sizes as well, but I resisted and bought a giant ball of scary green “chenille” yarn instead. It must have a use of some sort. Possibly for some Hallowe’en related knitting.

and stupid me chucked out the short-row hat I’d downloaded on one of those stupid tidying up the desktop frenzies, thinking I could always download it again whenever i wanted to actually start knitting the thing. Not that I’m about to do it, but I feel aggrieved all the same.
